In the Media: Forbes Interview With Unqork’s Netta Jenkins

Forbes spoke with Netta Jenkins, Unqork’s VP of Global Inclusion, to discuss the importance of compensating Employee Resource Groups (ERGs).

Janice Gassam Asare at Forbes spoke with our VP of Global Inclusion Netta Jenkins about Unqork’s refreshed strategies around Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), which are groups formed within organizations based on shared marginalized identities.

Unqork’s approach to building complex software with visual and intuitive drag-and-drop interfaces create opportunities for those who do not code to join tech teams, diversifying and expanding the talent pool. At Unqork, we also strive to embed diversity and inclusion across every level of our organization. That also includes ERGs of our own, but with a twist.

Unqork takes this a step further and funds these groups, an initiative many organizations have not taken.

“[We] went ahead and we really rebranded that and now call them employee resource strategy groups, because what we've found is these groups are very strategic with the ideas that they bring to the table filled with incredible talent,” says Netta. Unqork takes this a step further and funds these groups, an initiative many organizations have not taken.

Netta goes on to explain that Unqork’s ERSG leaders are compensated for their time and energy into creating inclusive initiatives outside of their full-time jobs. “Leaders will receive a quarterly stipend based on the estimated number of hours associated with their role. So, the rate, which would be the stipend total divided by hours, has been standardized across all ERSGs.” All ERSGs receive $25,000 in additional funding for their events and other needs.

We hope this inspires other organizations to take this extra step in supporting their diversity and inclusion initiatives. For more information, read the entire interview on Forbes' website.
